 PSA Basketball

Basketball has 4 seasons of league play and various tournaments through out a year.   We have over 2,000 teams playing basketball with us a year, therefore we need good qualified referees.  Howard LeCover is in charge of Referees and timekeepers training and scheduling.  Howard's website is www.psarefs.com for more information.  The following are descriptions of what he does.

• Director of Referees and timekeepers
• Scheduler of Refs and timekeepers
• Trainer of Refs and timekeepers

The majority of training for officials and timekeepers occurs prior to the winter season, normally  in October/November.  During the other seasons, experienced officials and new timekeepers are brought in, on a case-by-case basis.

You do not apply for timekeeper or referee positions at PSA.  You would check for when training is held and come to the meetings and you are instructed by the Director of Referees on the procedures for employment.  Meetings are posted on the www.psarefs.com website.

TIMEKEEPERS TRAINING FOR WINTER BASKETBALL SEASON:  

With basketball games year round, PSA basktball has tremendous opportunities for young people to operate the electronic scoreboards at every game. It's a great chance for anyone aged 14 and above to be involved with the game and earn money ($6.00 per game) also! As an "independent contractor," each timekeeper chooses their own days and times each week and then all that has to be done is to show up, operate the clock, and collect paychecks every two weeks!

It is that simple. Everything is internet based on this website. Every week, all games are divided into groups of 2,3, or 4 games. All time slots are then posted on this site each week, and then, on a first come first served basis, you just select the days and times you want! With as many games as there are, there is always enough games to go around. How many you choose to select is totally up to you! When you select some, you get an email confirmation, and your schedule is always available to be seen on the website. Yes, it is that simple.

Who Should Attend What - Please Read!

• If you have not officiated basketball before or it has been a few years, plan on attending ALL sessions; preferably in order.
• If you have officiated before and consider yourself knowledgeable of basic rules and mechanics, you do not need to attend sessions 2 or 4. Those of you who have officiated intramural or other "informal" leagues, you should plan on attending all meetings.
• If you are a past PSA official who did not work during the 2011-12 season, please plan on attending Sessions 1 and 3
• Current PSA officials only need to attend the General Meeting. 

Fees 2012-13

$55.00 for ALL Officials. Any payment by check at the meeting should be made payable to Texas Referees. (We plan on accepting credit cards at this years meetings and online. Stay tuned for more details.)
