Coaches and parents: PSA Basketball is testing a new procedure for this summer. In an effort to make it easier for teams to get in the correct divisions and play in a true “Recreational” or “Competitive” League, we have made a few changes:
Important: Please remember in the summer, teams register in the grade they will be in for the Fall of 2013.
In Grades 4th through 9th Boys Only: All club teams must register in the Competitive League. All non-Club Competitive Teams need to also register in the “Competitive League”. True “Recreational” teams that are not competitive need to register in the “Recreational League”. We are doing this test procedure to see if this will help with team placements. We want the competitive teams to play each other and the noncompetitive teams to play each other. We only chose 4th through 9th this summer as those will be the largest leagues and will have enough teams to make both Leagues. There will be divisions in both leagues as needed, depending on the number of teams. We know that the club teams will have some developmental teams and we do not expect them all to play in the most competitive division of the Competitive League. We are hoping by separating teams in this manner we will have better competitive and recreational leagues. We will make adjustments as needed in both leagues, but we need all of our teams to help us with this new trial procedure.
We will get feedback during the summer from coaches which will help us in determining what if any changes will need to be made for the future, in order to make this work. Again this is a trial period and it will only work if competitive teams go into the competitive league.
We have added a few changes to the competitive league to make it more like “real Basketball”:
1. There will be no playing time rules in the Competitive League.
2. Teams can press the whole game, until one team is up by 15 points.
We would like to do this for Girls leagues in the other seasons when the numbers are large enough to support it. We only picked the largest leagues this summer to use as a trial. We will combine any leagues that numbers do not support the two separate Leagues.
We have a Wait List for summer individuals that do not have teams or their team is not playing in the summer. We have created Recreational and Competitive Wait List in the boys grades 4 through 9th grade for the players to decide what they should play in. Hopefully this will help the parents making choices as to where their kids belong.
