PSA Rugby Information Sheet - 2012 Spring Season

Age Divisions from 7 to 18
-        Registration for 2012 spring rugby starts November, 2011.
-       Season is February through early May.
-    Preseason practice sessions and scrimmages start in December (see below).
   
To register for rugby access PSA’s MY SAM system or call PSA registration at 972-208-5437. 
 
Spring 2012 rugby registration fees are based on a player’s age as of 9/1/2011.
 
USA Rugby and Rugby Texas fees are included in the PSA fee and payable as one amount . 
 
The registration fee includes medical insurance coverage through USA Rugby for any rugby related medical care needed resulting from participation in or travel to and from rugby practices and matches.

*Basic team kit items consist of shorts, socks, and Poly T for Under 15s, 17s and 19s and shorts and socks for Under 9s, 11s and 13s. 
 

These team kit items and other optional uniform accessories and spirit wear are purchased through the club and are not included in the registration fee.

 
Players who purchased team kit items in 2011 do not need to replace these
 
Club Team Shirt sets are used provided to players during matches.
 
Players must have mouth guards and wear soccer or rugby cleats. Football cleats without the front toe stud are acceptable.
 
 

 Preseason practices

-       - No prior rugby experience is required.

-       - Pre-season “check it out” skills sessions for all ages are  from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the Plano Senior High indoor sports facility**.

-      - Days that these practices are held are:

  Jan 4th, 9th, 12th, 17th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and Feb 2nd, 7th, 10th, 2012   

-         - Sunday afternoon sessions are also held in January from 3:30 – 5:00 pm at Schimelpfenig school.

 

Regular season outdoor practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb 14th at High Point Park in Plano:

-         - 6:00 to 7:00 for Under 9s,

-         - 6:00 – 7:30 for11s and 13s

-      - 7:30 – 9:00 for pm for Under 15s, 17s and 19s. Times may be subject to change.

-      - Home matches start Feb18th, at High Point Park in Plano, but earlier away matches  may be scheduled.

-      - Matches are played on Saturday mornings. Some matches require out of town or  out of city travel.

-      - Spring match schedules can be accessed here:.

-      - Under19s and Under17s, boys and girls compete against other Texas clubs in leagues and for the -State Championships.

- Some intercity travel required.

-      - Girls high school rugby is growing and a State Championships for girls will be inaugurated this year.

-      - Post season select team competition is possible as well as summer and fall Olympic Rugby 7-a-side leagues

 
 
 ** Directions to the PSHS indoor Sports building.
From the intersection of Independence and Park Blvd, go east one block and turn north at the lights into Westside Drive.   Enter the PSHS student parking lot on the left.  The building is at the north west end and looks like a hangar.  The entrance to the building is on the west side.
What to wear.  Players should wear shorts, T-shirt, sneakers or rubber cleats and bring a mouth guard and water.
