How are Divisions formed?
PSA uses an AI program that takes into consideration many factors in helping determine how to place teams in divisions. We use coach's experience, returning number of players, previous season placements and other items to come up with the best split for divisions. We are aware that sometimes the information might have changed such as a teams best player not returning or maybe multiple kids didn't return and that changes the make up of the team. We allow teams to play a couple of games to start the season and then we re-evaluate if a change is neccessary and we have another team for it to swap with.
Sometimes, especially in older divisions, we run into the issue of only having a small amount of teams. At that time, we might look to combine divisions so we can get the most fair competition possible. This will require some travel on teams part, but in the end it should provide more competitive games for the kids. PSA will always look for ways to make sure the kids have a great experience through fair competition.
Where does PSA get Officials?
PSA actively recruits officials from all of the top organizations that service the area. Local school districts will use our officials for their middle and sub varsity games. We also actively recruit new officials and provide ongoing training year round. Officiating is a great "first" job for kids and we hope they stick with it for a long time. With that said, it is imperative that fans, coaches and players show respect and patience when you can tell you are working with a new official. It is not an easy job and allowed time to grow we will keep developing excellent officials.
