Plano Sports Authority offers the largest nonprofit youth volleyball program in Texas, with over 200 teams participating in our Core and Competitive Volleyball Leagues each season. One step into our gym on game day and you’ll see why! With families and friends filling the bleachers, players high-fiving each other after a great play, plus fun custom uniforms… you’ll want to sign up right away! With programs at two locations in Plano, one in Murphy, and another in McKinney, there’s bound to be something in your area.

What is Core Volleyball?

Core Volleyball is a great way to build skill and have some fun! Open to girls and boys in 1st grade through 6th grade, PSA’s Core Volleyball League is ideal for players who are new to the sport or are still working on fine-tuning their skills. A season is eight weeks long, plus one or two tournaments depending on the time of year.

What is Competitive Volleyball?

Ready for the next level? Our Competitive Volleyball League is open to boys and girls in 5th grade through 12th grade. Playing in this league is ideal for teams who have played together before or for players that have mastered the basics. A season is eight weeks long, plus one or two tournaments depending on the time of year.

What’s the difference between Core and Competitive Volleyball?

Both leagues are designed to benefit the player at their specific level of development. This means that Core Volleyball is played with different rules from Competitive Volleyball. For example, Core Volleyball allows one “re-serve” each time a player rotates into the service position, and substitutions are automatic, guaranteeing playing time for all present players. This style of play ensures that all players are given the opportunity to grow and to love the game.

In Competitive Volleyball, the game is played using the rules that players will see at the middle school and high school level. This means that our Competitive Volleyball League can be used as preparation for school volleyball, or as an alternative to playing on a school team.
